Thousands Delayed On Their Way to Uman
Tens of thousands of Israelis, as well as Jews from around the world, were in Uman Sunday, as they got set to celebrate Rosh Hashanah at the gravesite of Rav Nachman of Breslov, founder of the Breslov Hassidic sect. A ceremony earlier in the day, in which thousands said Psalms (tehillim) went off without a hitch, despite a strong rainstorm that took place Sunday morning.
The Jewish “settlement” in Uman includes numerous services, such as medical services, where volunteers from numerous organizations, including Israel's Ichud Hatzalah, which broadcast Sunday morning's event worldwide.
Medics have so far treated over 1,000 visitors, among them individuals with breathing problems, cuts and injuries, and heart trouble. Doctors have distributed prescription medicine – imported from Israel – to hundreds of people.
